  • It brings great joy to see the smile on a child's face when I help fulfill a wish they truly dreamed of.

Morgan, age 17

I Want to Go Shopping at the Beverly Center

We arrived at Morgan’s house 15 minutes early and Morgan was rearing to go. She had changed her outfit 3 times before settling on the one she would go shopping in. Fashion is Morgan’s passion and it shows.

Pam presented Morgan and her mom, Mo, with the information on the Ice Skating Competition and she just screamed. She was so excited to have this “extra” wish and was deciding who she would take each day to the competition. Mo was looking forward to relaxing at the hotel. It will be a well-deserved break for her due to all that she has been through since Morgan was diagnosed in August. Since Morgan’s Aunt could not come, her best friend surprised her and took the bus overnight from Vegas to join her for her shopping spree.

Shalonda arrived just in time as we were getting ready to head out in the limo. Morgan was very excited and could not wait to get going. She was ready to shop! After taking pictures in front of the limo, we headed off to the Beverly Center with Monroe, our driver. We arrived 10 minutes before the stores opened and went to Guest Services to get a discount card for the stores. Morgan was planning her attack on which store she would hit first. Once we had the card, it was off to Forever 21. The manager, Gloria, was great and told Morgan that she would be receiving a $200 gift card to the store. Gloria then assigned Drea to help Morgan with her spree. Morgan took off at high speed through the store grabbing clothes left and right. She filled up the clothing rack in seconds. Her mom and Shalonda also helped pick out clothes for Morgan. After the rack was full it was off to her own “private” dressing area to try on all of the clothes and give a fashion show. Morgan loves to show off her fashions and strike a pose. One of the things she wants to do when she turns 18 is to be on “America’s Next Top Model”. She is on her way with all of the clothes she got at Forever 21. After Forever 21 it was off to Shiekh Shoes where manager Javier let her know that she was receiving $150 toward her purchase. She got very excited at this news. She picked out lots of shoes.

Once we left Shiekh Shoes we were loaded down with packages and hungry, so it was off to unload the packages with Monroe and then head over to Chipolte for lunch. Elsa from Chipolte made Morgan the fish bowl winner so we all got our burritos for free, just had to pay for drinks and the chips and salsa. Lunch hit the spot and after lunch we headed to Macy’s to continue the shopping. Store Manager Betty and Customer Service Manager Jake presented Morgan with a cheetah bag filled with various items from Macy’s. Morgan loves cheetah so it was a perfect choice. At Macy’s Morgan got 4 pairs of Coach sneakers and lots of perfume and a very nice pair of jeans which Sean and Ben helped her with. In addition to the gift bag, Morgan received 20% off her purchases. After Macy’s we headed to Togs Soho where we were greeted by store owner, Sheila. She was so excited to meet Morgan and told her about the clients that shopped at her store and that she wanted to give Morgan a coat. She picked out a beautiful black pea coat (value $350) that looked wonderful on Morgan. Sheila learned about Morgan through Myung at the Beverly Center.

When I was making calls to enhance Morgan’s wish she contacted Sheila and said they wanted to give her a jacket. It was very sweet. Sheila is great and a wonderful person. If you are looking for a great jacket, head to her store. Once Morgan was done modeling the jacket it was off for more shoes at Nine West and Steve Madden. Shoes were flying off the racks. She must have gotten 10 more pairs of shoes. Manager Rosa at Nine West gave Morgan a 25% discount and Steve Madden’s Jessica gave her a 10% discount. By now, time was running short so as Pam was settling the bills Morgan headed back to Forever 21 to spend the rest of her money. She did not want a gift card and wanted to spend it all that day. She did a great job, she only had 60 cents left. After Forever 21, we were all exhausted and ready to head back to the limo. Everyone’s feet were hurting but it was well worth it.

Morgan enjoyed the wish so much and was thankful for all she got. She couldn’t wait to get home and check out all of the items she purchased. Morgan is an outgoing, smart, beautiful girl and if you every need anyone to represent Make A Wish at events or speak, she would be great. You may get the chance at Walk for Wishes. She was talking about getting a team together.
