Claire's mermaid bedroom designed by HGTV's Kim Myles
Imagine the Nokia Theatre at L.A. Live filled to its rafters or the pavilions inside Dodger Stadium packed with an overflow crowd and you can visualize the number of children the Make-A-Wish Foundation® of Greater Los Angeles has granted heartfelt wishes for since its founding in April of 1983. Today, August 18, the chapter granted the 7,000th wish in its history when it presented a mermaid bedroom makeover to Claire, a 14-year-old Calabasas girl who is battling cystic fibrosis.

Claire loves the ocean, and her family and friends say she is a mermaid because she loves the water so much. Her heartfelt wish was to have "my bedroom redone by a famous interior designer." Enter Kim Myles, winner of HGTV's Design Star in 2007, star of her own show "Myles of Style" and host of the HGTV series "Holiday Battle on the Block," coming this Christmas. Ms. Myles donated her time, labor and relationships to the project and personally picked out everything from the furniture to the paint to make this magical mermaid bedroom.

"This is a very important milestone for the Make-A-Wish Foundation in Los Angeles County and what a special wish to celebrate it," said Suzanne Sutter, President and CEO. "Children's wishes bring people together and Kim has gone above-and-beyond to create Claire's dream bedroom."

In support of the wish celebration on Wednesday, both the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors and Los Angeles City Council this week issued separate proclamations in recognition.

"This day would have not been possible without the tremendous support of our donors and volunteers who have given generously in both money and time," said Ms. Sutter. "Because of their support, we will set a chapter record with 420 wishes granted this year. We would like to share the recognition by the County and City with them."
