Mattel Helps Make-A-Wish Foundation of Greater Los Angeles Brighten Children's Lives, One Step at a Time with WALK FOR WISHES® Event

Inaugural fundraising walk celebrates 25th anniversary of Greater Los Angeles chapter while helping to raise funds for children with life-threatening medical conditions

LOS ANGELES (May 1, 2008) - Make-A-Wish Foundation of Greater Los Angeles invites everyone with a wish in their heart to help raise funds to bring happiness to children with life-threatening medical conditions at the first annual Walk for Wishes® fundraiser presented by Mattel, Inc.

Experience the joy of a morning walk around the gorgeous Pepperdine University, Stotsenberg track at 24255 Pacific Coast Highway, Malibu, CA 90263, on Saturday, June 7, during the first annual Walk for Wishes fundraiser. Check-in for the event is at 9:30 a.m.; the walk begins at 10 a.m.; and food, music and entertainment is provided from 10:30 a.m. until 1:00 p.m.

"Mattel employees have enjoyed being ‘wish granters' while fulfilling children's Hot Wheel, Barbie and American Girl Place wishes for the past 10 years," said Deborah Dicochea, Associate Manager of the Mattel Children's Foundation. "Mattel is sponsoring this event to engage more children and adults in the important work of the Make-A-Wish organization and to fund more wishes for children."

On-line registration for the event is now closed. You may register by phone at 310-788-9474 by 3:30 p.m. Friday, June 6, or at the Walk on Saturday, June 8, for $35 per person. Participants are asked to commit to raising another $75 towards the foundation's wish granting efforts. You may still make on-line donations for the Walk at our secure website.

Post-walk celebration activities include food, music, face painting, photos with Barbie®, racing Hot Wheels® down a large 10-lane track, Guitar Hero, spirit competitions and much more!

Supporters can register individually or form a team with a minimum of 4 people. Businesses, school groups as well as families and groups of friends are encouraged to create teams to spread the enthusiasm for making wishes come true.

Participants who raise at least $2,500 can be assigned to sponsor a specific child's wish and prizes will be awarded for the top fundraising team and the top 3 fundraising individuals.

"Our 25th anniversary seemed like the perfect time to host an event celebrating the children whose lives we have brightened," said Alicia Drozen, Make-A-Wish Foundation of Greater Los Angles event manager. "The day is for those who have been impacted by the wish experience and for those who want to ensure that sick children will always be able to receive their wish."

Online registration is available or event applicants can call 310-788-9474 and ask to speak with Events Manager Alicia Drozen.
